National Aboriginal Art Gallery
The Northern Territory Government has committed a $50 million down payment towards the construction of a National Aboriginal Art Gallery to establish Alice Springs as Australia’s inland capital.
Cooling and greening
The Northern Territory Government has contributed $5 million to create a cooler more comfortable town using a combination of strategically located and connected shading and landscape initiatives to encourage and extend pedestrian activities within the city during the heat of the day.
Kwatja / Water Play
The Northern Territory Government has committed $5 million to construct a kwatja (water) play area in Alice Springs to create a cooler, more liveable environment.
Affordable Land Release in Alice Springs – Kilgariff Estate
The Northern Territory Government is committed to the responsible release of titled land for residential development, working with the Land Development Corporation to progressively release 449 residential lots in the Kilgariff Estate.
New AIATSIS centre in Alice Springs
The Northern Territory Government is supporting the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) to establish a presence in Alice Springs that includes a partnership with First Nations Media Australia (FNMA).
Alice Springs Seniors' Lifestyle Accommodation Project
The NT Government’s vision is for senior Territorians to remain in the Territory and be able to transition into appropriate accommodation by ‘downsizing’ and ‘rightsizing’ if they wish.
Landmark Indigenous Land Use Agreement for Alice
The Northern Territory Government is in the process of negotiating with the Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation (LAAC) for an Indigenous Land Use Agreement that will unlock land for Alice Springs and jobs and practical benefits for Arrente people.

Arrernte Living Culture Centre
The Northern Territory Government has granted Arrernte organisation Akeyulerre Inc. $5 million dollars to build a new Arrernte Living Culture Centre.
Multi-storey carpark at Alice Springs Hospital
The Northern Territory Government will build a multi-storey carpark at Alice Springs Hospital.
Breaking the Cycle of Youth Crime
The Northern Territory has invested $5 million towards the implementing the Breaking the Cycle plan to tackle youth crime and anti-social behaviour in Alice Springs.
Safe Meeting Places
The Northern Territory Government aims to create a safer city through the use of safe zones utilising elements such as lighting, Closed Circuit Television monitoring and well placed seating areas.
CBD Security
Closed circuit television cameras
As part of the comprehensive suite of initiatives to break the cycle and combat anti-social behaviour in Alice Springs, additional Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras are being installed.
Lighting up the CBD
The Northern Territory Government has contributed more than $300,000 towards lighting up the CBD consistent with the Crime Prevention through Environmental Design initiative.
Wayfinding
Another element recommended through the Crime Prevention through Environmental Design initiative is the improvement of Wayfinding across the city.
Residential units
The Northern Territory Government has recently awarded a contract to construct 70 accommodation units for Health employees in Alice Springs.
Alice Springs Completed Initiatives
Stuart Highway North Upgrades - completed
Work on the $10 million upgrade of the Stuart Highway north of Alice Springs from Motor Vehicle Registry to Herbert Drive intersection is underway.
Women’s Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA) - completed
The Women’s Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA), formerly the Alice Springs Women’s Shelter, has settled into its newly developed building. The Northern Territory Government provided funding of $6 million to enable the new build.
Sporting Infrastructure - completed
The Northern Territory Government’s $6.2 million investment towards community sporting infrastructure in Alice Springs has been completed.
Megafauna Central - completed
As part of the Northern Territory Government’s plan to revitalise Alice Springs, the Northern Territory Government invested $1.5 million to transform the old Westpac building into the Alcoota Megafauna Central.
